Wax Thematique label founder and music producer, Nathan Womack has spent the last few years traveling Asia digging for obscure recordings that would otherwise likely be lost forever. In between curating vinyl releases for Wax Thematique, Nathan produces for the Seattle/St. Louis instrumental hip hop project “Paces Lift and Ben Bounce”. Inspired by digging adventures in Thailand, China, Hong Kong and South Korea, he and Ballard’s Bastille restaurant recently teamed up for the weekly Vinyl Internationalé event showcasing Thai Funk, Afrobeat, Tropical Jazz and Cantopop. After a year of living and traveling in Asia Nathan returns to Earshot Jazz festival with newly discovered records and an itch to share them with the audience.

sunking is the collective experimental sights & sounds of bobbygrooves & sous chef. Originally intended as a studio project to explore the crossings of avant-garde, hip-hop, jazz, and experimental music, sunking has morphed into a full fledged band featuring a rotating cast of talent. Their debut, self-titled album received critical acclaim after it's in February of 2019. Featuring Seattle musicians like Andrew Morrill, Alex Dugdale, Rob Homan, Cole Shuster, Alex Dyring, Victory Nguyen, Greg Kramer, Jazmarae Beebe, Donnie Sujack, Jeremy Woolsey, and (many) more - sunking is a project without creative limit. Moving beyond instrumental music, 2020 will find sunking releasing a collaborative album with Seattle-based, Louisana native rapper and singer Terrance Brown.
The Stranger's Dave Segal writes: "The result is an LP that sounds like it could've come out on the Ninja Tune or Mo Wax labels in 1998; I mean that in the most positive way possible... With its suave, buoyant bass line, sparkling glockenspiel, Pat Martino-esque guitar cailligraphy, and shuffling, rimshot-heavy beat, "Rainier (Tallboy)" carries the elegant, romantic bearing of mid-'90s Air. I wish it were at least three times longer than its 1:56 running time."

Drummer/rapper Kassa Overall is a Seattle-reared revelation on the New York scene in his own bands and with the likes of Vijay Iyer. “One of the few genuine-sounding, full-scope amalgams of contemporary hip-hop and jazz” (NY Times).
