We are excited to announce we will be meeting in person again!
Timbre Room has given us a space to test our tracks on a live sound system and teach classes!

We have given this event a new name as we want to welcome any DAW experience to these sessions. While we mostly teach on Ableton, a lot of the same skills apply across the programs.
For ages 21+ with proof of vaccination required.
Producers of all skill levels are welcome to come share their work, and learn new skills.

|| Auditioning Songs and Works In Progress for Feedback ||

After 15 minutes of introductions and catching up, we’ll be listening to people’s songs, on a club system, for feedback and encouragement. Sign up to have your song or work in progress played. There is a limit of 3 minutes per song, a limit of 10 songs, and slots are first come, first served. We will be taking 2 mins of feedback per track from the peers in the class.

Before Dub Music, American studios would always have the best equipment, and a set-and-forget mentality, when it came to any adjustments made to a song element during its life in the song. In Jamaica, Dub producers like King Tubby would get out-dated equipment they could afford, and then show us what we didn’t know could be done with it.

The concept of studio-as-instrument was pioneered by the Dub producers and engineers, as they would play back a multitrack recording of a song through the mixing desk, but then modulate, or as it were, automate, the mixer and effects on the fly.

This would create new versions of the reggae songs, sometimes with only small teases of the vocal echoed out, and birth the modern day remix. Automation in your DAW helps you avoid the set-and-forget mentality, and specials effects like reverb, delay, chorus, and other special sauce, can give the elements in your mix their own space and depth

Examining the difference between the sonic envelopes of multiple vocal takes across a variety of microphones, and comping, and processing the takes chosen from the different recordings. Understanding frequency response graphs, polar patterns, and microphone setup and placement.
